I adopted a new cat. He is 5 years old and his name is “Scooby”. I will pick him up tomorrow morning. Once I had 6 cats, and through attrition I ended up with the three I have now. I was going to continue without adopting any more cats. I do not want to be too old or dead to care for them in future. Scooby’s owner had to give him up because she/he could not care for him anymore.
Zeke was the last cat I took in in 2009. At the time he brought my total to six. Life was much different then for me. Scooby will be the youngest by a year at 5 years old. I would not adopt a cat any younger than that, but his age fits in with Zeke and Opie. I have no plans for any more cats, but I said that before. Next weekend I will post a Scooby update, and report what progress he has made in adjusting to his new home and family. I need to get him to the vet as well. He has a few new mysteries to solve!
Scooby is one lucky feline, Greg. Looking forward to updates. Thank you for your kind comments on our loss of Mr. J. After losing our kitty, Tiger, in late July (at almost 22 years of age), and now our dog, Mr. J, at age 15, we have one cat, Baby, who is 5 years old. I have to admit, I’ve been looking at PetFinder, etc. for an adult or senior cat. I’d prefer one no younger than 7 for the very reason you stated. I’m 63, and if another of our cats lived to almost 22, I’m not sure I’ll be around that long (hoping I will, but not sure!). Anyhow, if I do end up taking in another kitty you’ll be sure to see a blog post about it. Have a great day, and I hope Scooby is adjusting to his new home 🙂

Hopefully your children would take in your pets if you kick the bucket. Mine will.

A mere 20 years ago, when one of my friends was 65, A cat needed a good home. She refused to provide one, fearing she’d die before the cat. She lived another 15 years without any pets The cat she refused a home passed on a few years before that.
A 20 year old can die in an accident, while someone 60 can live to be 90. Life has no guarantees & life is too short to be without a 4-footed companion. Thanks for giving Scooby a good home. 🙂

I have done a U turn at the Pearly Gates a few times already. I am like an old Timex. You know the jingle. My pets were cared for by relatives temporarily. The cats would be taken care of. I don’t really live in a lonely log cabin in the woods, though I like to give that impression.

If I’m seeing the ears right, it looks like Scooby is formerly feral. So glad you decided to bring him into the family!
At this point, we don’t intend to bring any more into our home because it wouldn’t be be fair to the ones we have now. Not that we haven’t done any short-term fostering when it was truly needed.
So glad to here things are going well! 🙂

In real life his ear does not look tipped–just the photograph I think.

It is Sunday and he is home finally. Things are going better than I expected. He has fleas, but I treated them. He goes to vet Tuesday. Next weekend will come an update with photographs.

Oh…for sure Scooby will be happy. He can’t get a better place, and I am curious how the other cats will handle it. Please let us know how it works.
Tenerifegreetings to you all

PS I really need to stop walking by the “cats for adoption” at PetSmart….I’ve learned to just say hello and not read the signs. Years ago a friend gave me a little sign that said ….Destined to be an old lady with lots of cats. He should talk…he has six chihuahuas!

Famous last words, Greg! “I’m not going to adopt another cat”. I’ve said that before but then one shows up and that is the proverbial “all she wrote”.
I have blog friend in Italy who “had” a cat named Scooby Doo. Scooby Doo is alive and well and because he really belonged to the neighbors they couldn’t catnap him and take him along when they moved. They now have three (possibly more) cats in their little part of Italy.
Good for you for giving your Scooby a home.

That was fast! He seems well mannered and friendly. I never had a problem before mixing cats together.
