Steamboat Queen

Marigold dice ball

STEAMBOAT QUEEN

Marigold was a steamboat queen,

The purrtiest cat that you’ve ever seen!

With long creamy hair

And those big green eyes,

We’re all in love.

I can tell no lies!

She has a picture in bed,

Hangin’ over the bar.

The sultriest cat in the bay by far.

She runs the gambling tables,

The dice and the wheel,

And it’s not just by chance

That you got a bad deal!

It’s snake eyes you’ll get,

DON’T you know?

Whether Anchorage, Alaska,

or cold Juneau.

Seattle, Tacoma,

Vancouver too,

She’ll win your money–

Nothing you can do.

Cats, stay away

From her games of sin,

And the green-eyed temptress

Who will lure you in,

With plates of fresh tuna–

Everything is free!

Won’t you sit a while and

Play a little game with me?

Hanging over the bar

  1. Dear Greg, Marigold certainly is “the purrtiest cat”. Love the poem in her honor, it’s wonderful and so are the photos! I’m happy to read that she’s doing well. Please have a wonderful Wednesday, enjoy the cooler weather. ~ Mia

    1. Thanks, Mia! I know the photos were good–aren’t they always?! Nice to have a talented poetess like you liking my poem. I must admit it was a bit of a shot in the dark today, and I didn’t know what to expect. I did a lot of “heavy lifting” this morning, so now this afternoon it’s taking it easy time for me. Hope things are well with you.

      1. You’re welcome, Greg. The photos are always good, aren’t all cat photos always good?! I adore your poem, a lovely surprise. You’ve obviously been writing poetry for some time, this is a charming piece. Enjoy your “take it easy time” which sounds wonderful, please tell the kitties to enjoy their take it easy time too. Thank you for the kind wishes, all is well except for the ongoing heat.

    1. Thanks C.E.! I see many cat poems, written by cat ladies, on the blogs I read, and I decided just to go wild and try one in my own cat man style myself. I already have another in mind. A “poet” just became a new follower! Crazy huh?

      1. I need to give thought to deleting earlier ones, too. SOme are essential to the canon of how I got the kitty boys and their early times, but many could probably be deleted without any harm. (I periodically go back to find a photo I can find elsewhere to download, but the texts may be dispensable.)
