Hot Days and Hot Cats

Hot Days and Hot Cats describes the weather lately. We have no air conditioning or conditioner so the house gets pretty warm. In the early morning before full sunrise I give the boys a treat by opening the catio for a while before the sun hits it. Then it must be closed for the day and they need to find cool spots inside. Opie stays in her room. She is free to go where she chooses however. The house gets closed up and I try to trap the cool night air inside as long as I can.

  1. How is it we have never met? We’ve been around for more than ten years as have you. And our parents are in their 70s. Our mom writes all our content (sometimes with our help) and our dad takes about 90 percent of our photos. Mom’s photo abilities aren’t that great. We hope you will stop by sometime and meet us and maybe even join our Sunday Selfies blog hop. 2. We have air conditioning here, but my mom and dad said they didn’t use it all last summer because the cool mountain air where we are is just about perfect. Glad you kitties have options out there.

  3. We don’t have air conditioning either. The cats always try to sleep through the hot parts of the day. Guess that is the smartest way to handle it. We haven’t had any really hot weather here yet this year.

  4. I no longer need my hot water bottle in bed at night (!) but it’s still pretty cool in the mornings. HIgh today at 2:00 PM is supposed to be 71° F. I’m not looking forward to the warmer/hotter weather in the summer. I gave up on a dining table years ago…it’s a free for all now!

  5. Where I live in East TN it is always humid except in winter, and hot more months of the year than cool. It’s really bad without air conditioning.

  6. Phew, stay cool, kitties! My son in Olympia just got back from a business conference in Denver, where it rained the whole time he was there. He said it was a bit of a shock coming home and discovering it was hot outside of the air conditioned airport, and he was still wearing a rain jacket and long sleeved shirt. He bought a window air conditioner last summer but hadn’t installed it yet and was too tired to try to fit it back into his bedroom window, so he slept on the floor where it waa a little cooler. Hopefully he got it installed today!

      1. He was grumbling about being sleep deprived after the “Midwest-level” thunderstorms not only kept him awake but scared the shorts off of him. He said some of the booms sounded like bombs going off over his roof! He hasn’t mentioned anything about cat hoarding cases, as he works in the public defender’s’ office and processes offenses concerning humans (mostly). It does not surprise me though, as the woods around there are teeming with feral cats. His former housemate adopted a kitten they found wandering the area behind their backyard; the next day, five more popped out, looking for food. My son would leave a pan of kibble out for them, but after he moved he wasn’t sure what happened to them. He didn’t adopt any of them, as he was working crazy hours back then and worried about taking care of a kitten.

    1. I was first inclined to throw the shark out but he was pricey and I had nothing to lose using the washer. It went quite well. He didn’t even lose a tooth or an eye!

  7. cute photos. Nice you give them treats. A sleeping cat on the Kitchen table where you eat — interesting. Hope you you had a nice Mother’s Day yesterday.

  8. We don’t have air conditioning either because our temperatures rarely go high enough. Last year was very different and I hope we don’t get a repeat of those extreme temperatures. The weekend we got up to 65F, but today was back to high 40s. I don’t like getting above 65-70. I hope you can all keep cool.
