Nicholas playing with toys. This bed is his safety zone he always runs to when someone approaches him. He can approach us but we cannot approach him. He had a six foot face to face with Opie and she was a growling hissing monster. Nicholas kept advancing doing the slow motion walk. I took her away to prevent any more trauma or bloodshed.
Looks like a long road to gain trust if it is even possible. It is quite disheartening to never have touched him. He may not grow out of it. He is every energetic and enjoys playing with all the toys available as you can see in the videos. In the new video he is going funny over an old catnip carrot. He likes to drag all the toys under his bed. I found the feathers on the green ball but the ball has disappeared.

He is happy to play while you watch/video him, so that is good. Not knowing what he went through before he came to you, he could be traumatised by his past and will take longer than some to realise he is now safe and loved.

Aww Nicholas is a doll! I think the fact that he’s comfortable playing with his toys means a lot. If he feels safe enough to play he must be coming around. He’ll be warming up to you in no time, especially with the feather wand.

I think he will eventually feel safer and warm up to you. Keep playing with him for interaction. Maybe some Feliway plug=ins would make him feel safer.

I’m still working to get one of the cats who moved in Fall 2023 to completely trust me. But there’s been a lot of progress. Sounds like Nicholas might be one of those kitties that take awhile to warm up. (Unlike Sgt Stripes who was immediately at home.)

It’s a good start that he feels safe to play and come to you even if you can’t touch him yet. It’s just going to take time. He’s a cute little guy.

Greg, he will adjust and be socialized to you, I promise. Be patient. Always soft spoken and of course you already know to spend time with him. It’s a work in progress. He is feeling safe in the house already and he WILL learn who his Dad is.

I agree that it is going to take time. Please be patient. Obviously, something horrific happened to make him lose most of his tail and God knows what else he endured. He looks happy (which is extremely important). Have you tried playing with him while using a wand toy? If you do that for a few weeks and earn his trust more, he might just allow you to pet the top of his head or something). Don’t push it. I still feel he will come to you when HE is ready. He is obviously happy with his toys and is eating and using his litter box……..he WILL come around, I am certain of it!

I can lure him with the feather wand toy into playing at my feet He is excited to see me with it and talks alot. The mystery of his tail injury must have been traumatic. He was picked up in the wild. His tail has a kink in it where it was broken and healed. Don’t know how long he was outside like that

Need to make movies before he gets big–it won’t be long

I think you have a great start on his trust, he allows you close enough to take vidoes and photos, offer food, and he is playing…he’s not hiding etc…if this makes sense.

He comes in the room I am in and plays with toys as this movie clip shows. As long as I am still he won”t run away

It may take Nicholas a long time to trust you, but it will happen. Some cats take longer than others, but he will come around.

He is close when I feed him and he gets up close when I scoop the litter box–fascinating! I get him close when playing with feather wand.

Nicolas is just playing & hiding toys now from you but that may because he fears you’ll take them away give it time show you trust him and reward him with treats if he shows trust in you

Give it time. Sit with him, talk to him, give him treats. Let him learn that you can be trusted and not feared. He will come around.

He will be fine, but he and you, and Opie, must be patient. It is a good sign that he likes to play, he is not so afraid any more.
