Nicholas and the feather wand. He really wears himself and me out playing. I can move it closer so it is in right in front of my feet. When I stop he slowly saunters away and sits to see if I am going to let him have another go at it. He doesn’t show anxiety and fear, but just seems cautious for some unknown reason.

So cute! Nicholas is making progress! I noticed a comment about the woodland animals decals on your wall. I love them! I was going to ask about them but reading the comments answered my question. 🦊🐻🦝

It seems that you are making progress. He may have had a bad experience with a human earlier and is just extra-cautious now. It does appear that he is becoming a great hunter.

It may seem discouraging for Nicholas not to want you to move closer to him, but the fact that he will approach you is significant, and the fact that he plays with you is very significant! These are encouraging signs, though it may seem that things are moving very slowly. I foster for a rescue-group and have had quite a few cats who were very shy. One is Brazil, who still lives with me and, probably will never be adopted because he is like Nicholas: very shy. For weeks when he came to live with me, I saw only his tail as he disappeared into a closet upon my entering his safe-room. Eventually, he started rubbing up against me at meal-times. Now, he flops in front of me for pets and I can pick him up and put him on my lap; he loves the attention. I recall trying to corral him to take him to the veterinary; it was a half-hour ordeal for both of us. Now, he resigns himself to his fate.
Some of these cats do take time – a lot of time – but almost all of them come around. The ones who don’t usually don’t act like Nicholas. That he plays with you is big: he sees you as non-threatening, at least during playtime. That’s a wonderful start.

Thanks for the comment and your thoughts. He has been here 29 days. I try to associate myself with positive things. He doesn’t hide when he sees me. He came into the computer room and went to sleep on the bed behind me after watching me for a while. I bang a fork on his food dish when I bring it and he knows what it means and goes to his feeding spot. He leads me to the spot. You have a 2010 WordPress blog called Thirlthad which is why you are so designated. I need a link to find your real cat blog. Searching the title was useless. I will remove your second comment.

Happy boy! On an unrelated note, that wallpaper? Decals? featuring the animals peeking around the door trim is really cute!

Sort of like decals with a very light sticky tape like substance to hold them on but easy to peel off. And Opie is a girl.

It sounds like he is warming up to life there, Greg. He is a very handsome kitty, too.
