Louie Progress Report

Louie progress report: Took 2 of us to catch him and put him in his carrier to take him to the vet. At the shelter when he came in he was starved and dehydrated, lethargic, dirty, and weighed 3 pounds, and had eye infection. He still has right eye infection-got drops for that. His ears were cleaned out–he has ears infected with two bacteria types–got drops for that. He is the correct weight now at 8 pounds. He has two intestinal parasites–taking medicine for that. He has random muscle spasms when still or sleeping caused by not being able to stretch out while growing. It is disturbing to watch but harmless. He will always have them.

He has spacial issues having been confined in a small space, large spaces like the first floor scare him. He is out of his room and owns the second floor. No more eating under the bed. He flips his bowls upside down when empty. He used to be afraid of windows but is over that. He was scared to look out.Having been starved he has food issues and does not like being hungry. No human can eat in his presence as he charges your plate desperately trying to get it. I was surprised he played with toys. He is also very friendly and you can pet him and hold him which is also surprising. He is very good about getting his medicine. He is not afraid of the vacuum cleaner. He still will not go downstairs but he is down to the next to last step!

UPDATE: Since I posted, he has come downstairs to the kitchen’s pet water fountain and eaten Opie’s food. Opie was not pleased, growled and walked away.

Poor Louie! I knew he had been rescued from a hoarder situation but I never dreamed he would have all those effects from it. He probably has PTSD too! But he’s making great progress. That last picture is adorable! I’m glad he is good about taking his medicine, too. Amazing what love and proper care can do. 🥰

Yay! He’s getting braver! I tried to find your post about Louie’s back story when he was first rescued, to share with my sister who loves cats, but I couldn’t find it on your blog. Is it still there?

That precious precious baby! I had no idea when you got him that things were that bad with his health and kitty mind. ALL the best love and care for him from me and my girl here.
