Opie loves Christmas music / Vintage Christmas postcards (Reblog 2015)

Opie

Opie

Opie is a cat that enjoys music. She especially likes when I put a platter on the old record player purchased in 1974. I have an older and larger console model from the 60’s which works perfectly well, but you see I now use it as a TV stand.

Opie likes the screensaver

I had to protect the cloth over the speakers to prevent the cats from scratching them. My eyesight is poor so I must sit very close to see properly. Opie is waiting for me in my chair. She likes to sit in my lap and watch or sleep. I have several boxes full of records. I do sit and play them now and then. The most used ones are the Christmas albums, which are played in December.

Vintage Christmas Cards

My father kept all the holiday cards he received until 1930. Here are a few. They are all postcards and not folding cards. Some I can exactly date and others I cannot. They are mostly from the 1920’s. Cards do not show any publishers or origin.

I enjoyed these very much! Databbiesintrouttowne said it perfectly! It is at the point when I may have to rethink sending cards through the mail.

That will be a shame when the day comes no one handwrites or sends anything “real”. The president elect said this week he is going to privatize the post office as it loses so much money. I wonder how much FedEx will charge to deliver a Christmas card? Saving old cards and messages from friends and family through the years will be over.

I am surrounded by old things. If it still works, why discard it is my motto? I do regret I got rid of my 8 track tape player and reel to reel tape deck.I still have a working black and white tv set with knobs instead of remote controls. It’s like a piece of art. xxx

Opie was very sweet to wait to watch the TV with you. The cards are lovely and have been kept in good condition through the years.

That was years ago when Opie sat on my lap. Scooby took over that job, now it is open again. We shall see. The cards were all in a small box all those years and still are in the same box.

I have maybe three vintage cards my mom had, ~~~~ these are AWESOME. It’s a shame cards don’t look like this anymore. Thanks for sharing, I enjoyed this post 🙂 I’ll have to find the ones she gave me ! ♥♥ Now a card is 5.99 and postage what 70 plus cents ~~~~ ??

I have saved the cards for 36 years myself. How they didn’t get tossed is a miracle. I have some of mine from a baby into the 50’s. My mother kept them. The holiday card collection ends at the onset of the Great Depression but that is another story.
