The Invisible cat / hoarder update. More photos of Louie today. We see him invisible and stretching out. Still fighting parasites.
Feb 18 the hoarder had a hearing in court to decide the merits of the case and how to proceed. The judge said the allegations were disturbing. Charges were ten counts of felony animal cruelty–one count for each dead cat recovered. Nothing more. Each count carries a maximum 5 year prison term and/or a $10000 fine. Includes a lifetime ban on owning animals. Unlikely she will get the maximums as murderers get less. She pleaded “Not Guilty”. Bail set at $30000. Jury trial set for Thursday Feb 26. She was giving two kittens in her motel room dried goat milk. Inside were also a dog and two turtles. Don’t worry Louie. No milk of any kind for you!
On the health issue, Louie is getting more medicine for his parasite issue today from the vets. Tough to get rid of. He learned his name quite quickly and comes when called like a dog. He never had a name before. Louisiana Louie sounds like a gambler on a riverboat!

Poor baby. I’m happy he’s doing okay.

Louie is adorable as ever. How did the hoarded get to keep any animals? Hopefully, she won’t be able to keep any of them.

They were all taken away to stay in shelter or foster care and some adopted out.

How sad about the animals she harmed. I am glad Louie got such a loving home. I hope all the rest were as blessed.

I always love seeing pictures of Louie! “Louisiana Louie, the riverboat gambler”! I can see it now.😂 I’m glad he is enjoying having a name and comes when he is called. Was it Jim Croce who had the song “I Got a Name”? Shades of the 70s 🤔

Jim Croce–he died too early.

I know hoarding is thought to be due to mental illness but I sure hope this person is brought to justice. And I hope Louie continues to improve.

Think I am starting to agree with the mental illness cause rather than maliciousness. She must not start again. There is probably a backstory to this we don’t know.

Louie looks happy now. I hope his parasite problem is soon finished with. He was a lucky one to end up with you. I hope the hoarder does get the sentence she deserves, and more.

It’s great to see Louisiana Louie enjoying life.
Animal hoarding is a special kind of mental illness, maybe sentencing her to get help would be a better option. Either way, once she is living in a house/apartment on her own again, someone needs to be watching closely and inspecting to make sure she never takes in another animal.

Poor Louie. That’s rough. My Tylan came from a hoarding situation in Thailand.
The thing with hoarders is that they truly believe the kitties (or dogs or birds or whatever animal) are better off with them than elsewhere, even though the hoarder cannot reasonably care for them. It’s really sad.
I hope Louie’s parasites are gone soon! I know some of those are really tough to get rid of.

Trying to care for 70 cats in my home would make me mental! Most I ever had at once was 6–now only 2. Got MORE parasite medicine.

I hope the hoarder has the book thrown at her, but in reality she’ll probably receive just a fine and a prohibition to own any animals, which she’ll disregard as soon as she’s out of the courtroom. There was a similar case in my area where a woman had over 30 chihuahuas in her house, not counting the many dead ones animal control officers found in the yard and elsewhere. She was wealthy and well connected, unfortunately, so she received the minimum sentence, a fine and pet ownership prohibition. Three years later an animal welfare officer found almost the exact circumstances in her house, except she also had miniature poodles and other small dog breeds. No idea what happened after that, but people like her are literally sick. They need to spend time in a psychiatric center, with no access to animals.

I I Think you are right. My rage for revenge is over and I think she will see no harsh punishment unless this is not the first time!

It’s a travesty that with all the evidence found, the animal abuser is even allowed to plead ‘not guilty’. She should be locked in a cage and made to feel exactly as those animals felt.
Louie is so lucky to have a second chance with you and your daughter.

FOR THE RECORD, my wife died years ago and my daughter lives with me. I think it would be hard to find an unbiased jury.
