Opie asks, “What makes you think I want to play catch with this thing?” Go play with Scooby! He thinks he is a dog!

This post is about life in the catio then and now.
THEN: I rummaged around my external hard drive, and pulled out some old catio pre-digital photographs. The catio photos are taken at my previous house, where I originally built the thing. Aside from a few repairs, it is still the same catio. The cats shown are Peep (Maine Coon), Data–long hair orange and white, and Verty–a tabby like Scooby. All crossed over the bridge quite a while back. They can be read about on my In Remembrance page. Interestingly enough in both locations, the catio faces East. My next door neighbors had cats, rabbits, and geese. When coyotes killed them all, I decided my cats were going to be indoor cats from then on. I could not bear losing them. And thus, the catio, or catrun, as I called it then was created.

The above featured photo is a polaroid from 2001, which I repost today as it is the only one I have like this.
This post is about an unusual vintage cat food mat, Mt. Rainier, some guest cats, Opie and her new toy from the tooth fairy, and an interesting blog called “Colouring the Past” featuring some cats.
I used this mat almost 20 years ago, I reckon. I was looking for photos of cats eating at the time, but those were few and I did not see the mat. It surfaced the other day when I was cleaning out cabinets. I was surprised and remembered it instantly. What I notice about it of course is the cup of hot chocolate the cat has! Today we all know chocolate is bad, and would not conceive of drawing a cat with chocolate. At any rate, I am using it again, at least for a while. When Zeke first saw it on the floor, he creeped up to it and slowly extended his paw to touch it, in order to see if it moved, I guess. As usual, no camera handy.

Seems like we were just there not long ago, and that is true. I just took them for needed shots and postponed exams as I was in a hurry. Now is exam time. Once again I got the two scheduled together in order to reduce the number of vet visits. Well, to make a short story even shorter, they both needed dental work. Marigold needs a cleaning and Opie had two painful teeth being absorbed that needed to come out as soon as possible. That happened even before I post this. Perhaps a happy mouth will improve her opinion of Scooby. Marigold will be scheduled somewhat in the future as she isn’t too bad, but we don’t want her to get that way. She is 14 and never had her teeth cleaned! Here are a few photos of exam visit.

What are you doing in there, Opie?

Happy 4th Blogversary to us! We have been banging out posts on the Feline Cafe here on WordPress for 4 years now. I am going to need a new typewriter ribbon soon! Every January I think, “How am I going to post all year long? I got nothing today!” Blogging never ends. It is like a long running soap opera: the story just goes on and on. . . . We had a new blog theme makeover. We also got a new domain name. Since we started here, we have never lost anyone! How lucky is that? Time to give some credit to the staff here who keep things going.
